Driving and parking in Tunis: practical tips
Driving in Tunis takes a little attention for the first few kilometres. Traffic is heavy at the morning and evening rush hours, especially on the roads linking the Lac, Ariana and the city centre; roundabouts are frequent and you take your turn with confidence but without aggression. Outside those hours traffic flows well and the main roads are clearly signed. Three motorways leave the capital: the A1 south to Hammamet and Sousse, the A3 west and the A4 north towards Bizerte. These motorways have toll booths, so keep some small change handy.
For parking, the city centre and Les Berges du Lac have paid on-street spaces; hotels, shopping malls and office buildings have their own car parks. Keep the rental contract and the vehicle papers in the glovebox, and photograph the condition of the car at delivery: it is your reference when you return it.
Day trips from Tunis
