What is included in every car rental in Tunisia

Every VIPCAR car rental in Tunisia comes with the same base: 300 km per day included, basic third-party insurance, full-to-full fuel and a recent, serviced car. The daily rate is displayed on each car page in TND with a EUR conversion, and the weekly and monthly tiers are shown on the same page, so you can compare a weekend with a two-week holiday at a glance. There are no extra insurance packages to add at the counter: the refundable security deposit described below replaces them. Delivery to your hotel, your office or the arrivals hall of the airport is arranged when you book, and our WhatsApp line answers 24/7 before, during and after the rental.

Security deposit and insurance: what you actually risk

A refundable security deposit is held for the duration of the rental and returned in full when the car comes back in good condition. It is your maximum liability: whatever happens, nothing is charged beyond the deposit. The amount depends on the class of car — Economy 1,500–3,000 TND, Standard 5,000 TND, Luxury 6,000–8,000 TND — and the exact figure for the model you choose is stated on its car page and confirmed at booking. Insurance is basic third-party cover only; VIPCAR does not sell CDW or excess-waiver products, so the price you are quoted is the price you pay. Full details are in our deposit policy.

Requirements to rent a car in Tunisia

To rent a car in Tunisia with VIPCAR, the driver must be at least 21 years old and have held a driving licence for at least 2 years. At pick-up you present your passport or national ID card, your driving licence and a bank card — credit or debit cards are both accepted for the deposit. If your licence is not printed in the Latin alphabet, an International Driving Permit is recommended alongside it. Additional drivers, child seats and any special request are simply mentioned when you book so they are ready with the car. Tourists, residents and companies that need formal invoicing are all welcome.

Car rental at Tunis-Carthage, Djerba and Enfidha airports

Airport delivery and collection are free at Tunis-Carthage (TUN) and Djerba-Zarzis (DJE); at Enfidha-Hammamet (NBE) they cost €60 each way. Send us your flight number and a VIPCAR agent waits for you in the arrivals hall, day or night, with the contract ready and the car parked outside. Car rental at Tunis airport is the natural start for the capital, Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and the northern coast; Djerba airport for the island, Zarzis and the road to the south; Enfidha for Hammamet, Nabeul and the Cap Bon. One-way rentals between our offices — for example pick up in Tunis and return in Djerba or Gabès — are allowed for a fee of €70–€100 depending on the route, confirmed at booking.

Long-term car rental in Tunisia

For a month, a season or a full assignment, long-term car rental in Tunisia costs less per day than a string of short bookings. Each car page shows its weekly and monthly rate tiers, and for longer contracts we prepare a quote that reflects the duration, the model and the mileage you expect — the 300 km per day included add up over the whole rental period, so a monthly contract carries a generous overall allowance. Companies get formal invoicing, a dedicated account manager and vehicle swaps or extensions through their corporate account. Tell us the start date, the expected length and where the car will mostly be driven, and we come back with a fixed price.

Which car to rent in Tunisia?

The right car depends on the trip. For Tunis and short city stays, an economy car such as the Kia Picanto or a compact like the VW Golf 8 is easy to park and cheap to run. For the motorway between Tunis, Hammamet and Sfax with luggage, a sedan such as the VW Passat or Toyota Corolla is more comfortable. For the south — Tozeur, Douz, Matmata — choose an SUV like the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, or the Toyota Hilux pick-up for work sites. Groups of up to eight travel together in a Mercedes V-Class or Peugeot Traveller van, and the Mercedes E-Class is the luxury choice for business and weddings. Browse each category below.

How to book your car rental in Tunisia

Booking takes a few minutes: send your dates, pick-up place and, if you are flying in, your flight number on WhatsApp or through the booking form, and you receive a fixed quote in TND with the EUR equivalent. No payment is needed to get the quote. For bookings made more than 7 days ahead, a reservation deposit of 10 % (standard cars) or 20 % (luxury cars) confirms the car; for last-minute bookings it is optional or subject to availability. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pick-up (inside 24 hours, the reservation deposit is not refunded and a 20% fee applies); refunds are processed within 5–7 business days. We accept TND, EUR, USD, GBP and SAR by cash, card, bank transfer, PayPal, Revolut or secure payment link.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are the requirements to rent a car in Tunisia?+

Be at least 21 years old, hold a driving licence for a minimum of two years, and present your passport or ID card plus a credit or debit card for the security deposit, as set out in our Terms & Conditions.

How much is the security deposit?+

It depends on the category: 1,500–3,000 TND for economy cars, 5,000 TND for standard cars and 6,000–8,000 TND for luxury cars — the exact amount is shown on each car page. The deposit is refundable, returned in full when the car comes back in good condition, and it is your maximum liability.

Is insurance included, and what does the deposit cover?+

Basic third-party insurance is included in every rental. We do not sell extra insurance packages: the refundable security deposit is your maximum liability. Whatever happens during the rental, nothing is charged beyond the deposit, and it is returned in full if the car comes back in good condition.

Is there a mileage limit?+

300 km per day are included in every rental — enough for day trips from Tunis, Hammamet or Djerba. Planning a longer itinerary, such as a tour of the south? Tell us your route and the formula is confirmed at booking.

What is the fuel policy?+

Full-to-full: the car is delivered with a given fuel level and you return it with the same level. There is no refuelling package to buy, and nothing to pay if the level matches.

Can you deliver the car to my hotel or to the airport?+

Yes. Delivery and collection at Tunis-Carthage (TUN) and Djerba-Zarzis (DJE) are free, 24/7 — including night arrivals; at Enfidha-Hammamet (NBE) they cost €60 each way. We also deliver to hotels around our offices in Tunis, Gabès and Djerba, and almost anywhere in Tunisia on request.

Can I pick up in Tunis and return in Djerba?+

Yes. One-way rentals between Tunis, Djerba and Gabès — including their airports — are allowed. A one-way fee of €70–€100 applies depending on the route, confirmed at booking.

Do you offer weekly, monthly or long-term rates?+

Yes — most cars have discounted weekly and monthly rates shown on their page, and long-term corporate contracts are available with formal invoicing.

Which currencies and payment methods do you accept?+

Prices are displayed in TND with a EUR conversion, and we accept TND, EUR, USD, GBP and SAR. You can pay in cash, by card, bank transfer, PayPal, Revolut or a secure payment link.

Do I need an International Driving Permit in Tunisia?+

Not for most visitors: a valid national licence held for at least two years is accepted. If your licence is not written in the Latin alphabet, we recommend carrying an International Driving Permit alongside it.

Can I take the rental car outside Tunisia?+

No. Crossing the border with the vehicle is not permitted, per our Terms & Conditions. Inside the country you are free to explore, including the south, with 300 km per day included.

How are rental days counted?+

Rentals are billed on a 24-hour basis from pick-up time; late returns may incur extra charges. Some vehicles have a minimum rental duration, shown on the car page.

Any tips for driving in Tunisia?+

Drive on the right; speed limits are posted in km/h. Keep your licence, passport and rental contract in the car. Fill up before heading into the south, where fuel stations are further apart. Check the car with our agent at delivery and take photos, so your deposit comes back in full.
