Car Rental Prices in Tunisia 2026: What You Really Pay

Car rental prices in Tunisia depend on four things: the category of car, how many days you keep it, the season, and what the rate actually includes. A daily rate that looks low can end up costing more than a higher one once an airport fee, an insurance add-on and a mileage cap are added at the counter. This guide shows you what you really pay, not what the headline says.

Every model figure below is read from our fleet database when this page is generated, the same source as our pricing page and each car page, so the numbers here match what you see there. They are indicative daily rates in Tunisian dinars (TND): seasonal rates and availability apply, and the written quote is the price you pay. You will find prices by category, how rental length lowers the daily rate, what VIPCAR includes, how the deposit works, and three worked budgets in plain words.

How much does it cost to rent a car in Tunisia? For a self-drive rental the answer starts with the category. The list below shows, for every car currently in our fleet, the headline daily rate in TND and the minimum rental length, read from the same fleet data as our pricing page. Rates are indicative and subject to season and availability; the site shows a EUR conversion next to every price, and the figure on the car page is the one that applies to your dates.

Two notes before you compare. Every car has a minimum rental length, shown next to its rate below and on its page: a booking shorter than that minimum is not offered on that model, so check it before you compare one car with another. And the daily rate is the start of the calculation, not the end: read the next sections before setting one figure against another.

Car rental prices in Tunisia are degressive at VIPCAR: a car can carry long-rental tiers, usually from 7 days and from 30 days, and where a tier is set the daily rate drops at that step. You do not need to negotiate it; the tier applies automatically to the number of days you book, it is shown on the car page, and the quote names the rate you are on. Where a car has no tier configured, the weekly or monthly rate is confirmed in your quote.

Two live examples, read from our fleet data. The Kia Picanto has a headline rate of 100 TND/day; on a 14-day booking the applied rate is 120 TND/day, and on a 30-day booking 120 TND/day. The Toyota RAV4 goes from 290 TND/day to 340 TND/day from 7 days and 340 TND/day at 30 days. Where two figures are identical, that car currently has no tier at that step. Same car, same conditions, a lower rate because you keep it longer.

This is why a full week often costs little more than five separate days, and why a monthly booking is the right formula for expatriates, project teams and extended stays. Our long-term rental page explains the monthly option in detail, including invoicing for companies.

Seasonal rates also exist. Each car can carry a seasonal daily rate for busy periods, typically summer, school holidays and the end-of-year break, and when your pick-up date falls inside one of those windows, the seasonal rate replaces the tier price for that rental. We do not publish percentages because the windows and amounts are set per car and per year.

In practice this means the same Volkswagen Golf 8 can cost more in August than in March, and availability is tighter as well. If you know your dates, book early and in writing, so the quote you receive is the price you pay. Outside the peak windows the standard tiers apply and the fleet is wide open.

If your route needs more than 300 km a day, a tour of the south for instance, tell us the itinerary and the formula is confirmed at booking, before you drive, not on the return invoice.

These are not accusations aimed at anyone in particular; they are the standard ways a low headline rate grows in every rental market, Tunisia included. Check each one before you set another price against ours.

The deposit is not a cost, but it does need to fit your card limit, so plan for it. A refundable security deposit is held for the rental: 1,500–3,000 TND for economy cars, 5,000 TND for standard cars and 6,000–8,000 TND for luxury cars. The exact amount is shown on each car page.

It is your maximum liability: whatever happens during the rental, nothing is charged beyond the deposit, and it is returned in full when the car comes back in good condition. We do not sell CDW or extra insurance packages, because the deposit model replaces them. It is held on a credit or debit card, both accepted; if you would rather leave a cash deposit, ask at booking. One-way rentals between Tunis, Djerba and Gabès, airports included, are allowed with a fee of €70–100 depending on the route, confirmed at booking. Extras such as a child seat, an additional driver, GPS or a Wi-Fi hotspot are available on request; their price is confirmed in the quote, never added afterwards.

To confirm a booking made more than 7 days ahead, a reservation deposit of 10% (standard cars) or 20% (luxury cars) is required; for last-minute bookings (0–7 days) it is optional or subject to availability. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pick-up; within 24 hours the reservation deposit is not refunded. Refunds are processed within 5–7 business days.

We accept TND, EUR, USD, GBP and SAR. You can pay in cash, by card, bank transfer, PayPal, Revolut or a secure payment link. Prices are displayed in TND with a EUR conversion, so you always know the amount in both currencies before you commit.

To make the rates concrete, here are three scenarios calculated from our live fleet data at the moment this page was generated: the rate that applies to the number of days, multiplied by the days. They are indicative, exclude any seasonal rate on your dates, the security deposit is separate and refundable, and the pricing page shows the live figure for your booking.

One week in an economy car. A Hyundai i20 for 7 days is billed at 180 TND/day, so the rental comes to about 1,260 TND for the week, with 300 km per day, third-party cover and free airport delivery included. A compact hatchback: enough for a couple touring the coast.

Two weeks in a family SUV. A Toyota RAV4 for 14 days is billed at 340 TND/day, so about 4,760 TND for the fortnight. A family SUV at home on the motorway to Sousse as much as in town.

One month in a compact. A Volkswagen Golf 8 for 30 days is billed at 250 TND/day, so about 7,500 TND for the month. Set that against the same car's headline rate of 210 TND/day and the effect of the monthly rate is clear. For stays of a month or more, the long-term page is the place to start.

There is no trick to a lower bill, only a few decisions taken before you book and a little care during the rental. These are the ones that actually move the total.
